Byzantium is a renovated farmhouse in the most beautiful part of the Morvan Nature Park, between Autun and Château-Chinon, at an altitude of 580 meters. Our farm, located in a quiet village, covers 2,600 square meters, fenced off with trees and bushes, looking out upon a magnificent country-side.

The lodge is located in the rolling foothills of the Jurassic range, in the very middle of a rich tourist area: the hills of Haut-Folin (at 900 meters), at the foot of Mont-Beuvray, Bibracte with its museum of ancient Celtic civilization, the canyon of the Canche, lake Settons (360 hectares) and lake Pannecière (520 hectares), the thermal waters of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains, and then too Anost with its book fair, festival of the hurdy-gurdy (yes...) and even a crayfish fair!
The Morvan region is pleasant and beautiful all year round: 285,000 hectares of park land, far from all industry or pollution!

So many activities are available of course in addition to hiking (the park offers 3,400 km of hiking trails, the main trail being only 200 meters from the lodge), a long list including: horse-back riding, mountain biking, rafting and kayaking on our many streams, swimming, boating, water-skiing, as well as cultural sites such as churches, cathedrals, museums, to say nothing of fine country restaurants (naturally!).

While there is no shopping in the village Le Pommoy, one will find quite a fine selection in Arleuf (5 km), Château-Chinon (15 km) and above all in Autun (15 minutes, or 18km, by car).

Autun, ancient Gallo-Roman village located on a main trade route from Italy through eastern Gaul, is a thoroughly lovely and also practical city with a population of 20,000, thus neither too large nor too small. It is home to the sub-prefecture of our department of Saône-et-Loire; you will find all of the popular super-markets (Atac, Leclerc, Intermarché, Casino, Ed, Leader Price), 2 bio-shops, a shop specializing in equitable commerce with developing countries, a pedestrian shopping street, an outdoor market with local produce twice a week (Wednesday and Friday), at least 20 restaurants and even a McDonalds; in addition, the city offers a second-hand store, an Emmaus outlet, an auction house; as for entertainment and tourism Autun boasts of churches, a marvelous cathedral, Gallo-Roman ruins (but in excellent shape!), among which is an ancient theatre at which productions are held, museums, movie house, municipal events building, and many opportunities for sports (horse-back riding, golf), and finally a lake with its water sports.

Because of its ideal location you will find the Byzantium lodge a perfect starting point for daily explorations into the great sites of Burgundy culture and history, to say nothing of its renowned cuisine. You will discover, all within a radius of no more than 100 km, the artistic and architectural marvels of Saulieu (45 km), Beaune and its wine road (70 km), Chalon-sur-Saône (78 km), Vézelay (80 km), Avallon (85 km), Nevers (90 km), Tournus, Cluny (100 km).

But above all Byzantium provides, in a framework of personal freedom, a sense of peace and happiness!
